Primary Classroom Pedagogy– Conducted by Dr James Cuskelly and Ms Judith Johnson
This 10-day course caters for music specialists in primary schools, classroom teachers, studio teachers and other interested people who wish to improve their music teaching skills. The classroom music course is designed as a three-year sequential program.

Who are the tutors?
Dr James Cuskelly
Dr James Cuskelly obtained his Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Music Studies (with Kodaly emphasis), and PhD from The University of Queensland. He also holds a Kodály Certificate from the Holy Names University in California. Cuskelly is currently on the Advisory Committee for the Australia Music Examinations Board. He has also published many papers in various publications and symposiums related to Kodaly and his teachings. His main interests lie in Secondary music education, older beginners, voice and music education, as well as community music education.
Ms Judith Johnson
Judith Johnson was for 26 years, Head of Visual and Performing Arts at Clayfield College in Brisbane where she began a Kodály based music education program from Pre School to Year 12. After leaving Clayfield College she was appointed to The School of Music, The University of Queensland where she has been teaching aural studies and music education for the past seven years. She has now retired from lecturing in the academic year but is heading up a research program to collate and analyze the University’s collection of folk material from Southern Queensland. She is still actively involved as a clinician both nationally and internationally.

How much will it cost and what do I receive at the end of this level?
The cost for this 10 day course is RM2, 800. This fees covers;
• Tuition fees for 10 days
• Course handouts
• 2 tea breaks per day
• Level Certificate of Completion
• A dinner and sing through of songs learnt during the course, at the end of the 10 days.
Participants who complete all 3 levels will be given a Full Certificate of Completion issued by the National Council of the Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia.
Why only 20 spaces available for Primary Level 1 and 30 spaces available for Primary Level 2?
As with all other professional courses, we aim to keep the group small and intimate so that there will be a better and more personal interaction between the tutor and each participant.
Can I book a place first, and confirm and pay later?
We are sorry but the answer is no. As the numbers of places are very limited, we are going on first come first served basis, and confirmation of registration is only upon receipt of payment by online transfer.

I am not from Kuala Lumpur. Where can I stay?
The fees do NOT cover accommodation. Participants who require accommodation need to make their own bookings. Suggestions are as below:

What about meals?
The fees include 2 tea breaks a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon as well as light refreshments. Participants have to pay and look for their own main meals during the course. YCA is surrounded by many food outlets that cater to every budget – from mamak stalls to Chinese coffee shops to cafes and restaurants. There is even an organic vegetarian restaurant just around the corner!
