Gaudeamus Youth Choir

Gaudeamus Youth Choir (GYC) is Young Choral Academy’s resident choral training programme for teenagers. Comprising singers between the ages of 14 to 19, they are mostly comprised of graduates of the Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir and from different vocal and choral backgrounds.

The main objective of Gaudeamus is to provide a solid platform for singers to learn, share and perform good choral music across the different genres to a high artistic level. The repertory covered is wide-ranging, from folksongs and madrigals to Classical and Contemporary, in different languages and styles. Emphasis is given to developing ensemble and vocal technique, understanding and awareness of musical styles, musicianship and performing experience.

Gaudeamus has staged several acclaimed concert productions of their own and won a Gold Award at the 2018 Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod International Choral Festival (Teenage Category). Some of its past and current members are alumni of some of the secondary school choirs in Malaysia and have gone on to sing in the prestigious World Youth Choir and Asia-Pacific Youth Chamber Choir (APYC).
